The best type of underlayment for your metal roof will depend on your climate, budget, and roof pitch.  In general, self-adhering membrane is the best choice for most metal roofs, but synthetic underlayment may be a good option for simpler roofs in mild climates. Felt underlayment is generally not recommended for metal roofs because it can degrade and become brittle over time.
